Christian Backaert is a seasoned supply chain professional with over two decades of experience at Solvay, a multinational chemical company headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Throughout his career at Solvay, Christian has demonstrated his expertise in various high-impact roles, significantly contributing to the company's supply chain management and excellence.
Currently, Christian serves as the Global Supply Chain Excellence Manager, a position he has held since July 2014. In this role, he supports Solvay Business Units in developing mature supply chain organizations, manages projects in collaboration with these units to achieve cash and cost objectives, and ensures efficiency in supply chain processes by developing best practices. His contributions have been pivotal in enhancing the overall supply chain efficiency within the company.
Prior to his current role, Christian was the Head of European Supply Chain Projects and Excellence for the GBU ChloroVinyls from January 2013 to June 2014. In this capacity, he led the organization design for supply chain in a project merging two major Business Units, worth approximately 2 billion euros. He was also responsible for developing and implementing supply chain excellence programs and various efficiency projects within the business unit.
Before this, Christian served as the European Supply Chain Manager for Solvin from 2004 to January 2013. His responsibilities included overseeing planning, logistics, transportation, packaging, and order processing activities for PVC production in Europe, managing a budget of 80 million euros, and leading a team of 25 individuals. Additionally, he played a key role in the development and implementation of the S&OP structure, a service segmentation approach, and a CO2 reduction program.
Christian Backaert's extensive experience and strategic vision have made him a key player in advancing Solvay's supply chain capabilities, ensuring that the company remains competitive and efficient in its operations.
